What You Need to Know About IELTS
What is IELTS?
IELTS is one of the most widely recognised English language tests in the world. It is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP, and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. It is accepted by universities, employers, and immigration authorities in over 140 countries.
Two Versions
There are two versions of the IELTS exam. Academic is for people applying to undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at university. General Training is for people who want to work, migrate, or undertake non-academic training in an English-speaking country.
Four Skills Tested
The exam tests four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each skill is assessed separately and awarded a band score. The four band scores are then averaged to produce your overall band score.
How it is Scored
IELTS is scored on a band scale from 1 to 9, in whole and half band increments. Most universities require an overall band score of between 6.0 and 7.0. Immigration score requirements vary by country and visa type, so always check the official requirements before applying.
How Long is it Valid?
An IELTS certificate is valid for two years from the date of the test. After two years the score is considered out of date by most institutions and authorities. If you need a current score you will need to retake the exam.
Where to Take the Exam
IELTS is available at approved test centres worldwide. Tests can be taken on paper or on computer, depending on availability at your chosen centre. Visit ielts.org to find your nearest test centre and book your test.
How Your IELTS Preparation Course Works
Passing IELTS is not just about your English level. It is about knowing how the exam works and being prepared for every task it throws at you. That is what our course is designed to do.
Your lessons are planned around your current band score, your target score, and how much time you have before your exam date. Each session builds your confidence in one of the four skills — Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening — while making sure you understand the techniques and strategies that examiners actually reward.
Lessons are delivered 1-to-1 or in a small group of no more than four students. 1-to-1 students choose a lesson frequency that works for them. Group students follow a fixed twice-weekly timetable.

How long will it take me to reach my target band score?
It depends on your current level and your target score. As a general guide, moving up one full band score typically requires around 200 hours of study. We will give you a realistic assessment after your free consultation.
