About the Oxford Test of English
The Oxford Test of English has its own format and scoring. Understanding this helps you choose the correct course.
The Oxford Test of English
The Oxford Test of English is an online English exam certified by the University of Oxford. You take it on a computer at an approved test centre. It is accepted by universities, employers, and training centres in many countries.
Levels Covered
There are two versions of the exam. The standard test covers levels A2, B1, and B2. The Advanced test covers levels B2 and C1. Both versions follow the CEFR scale, which is the international system for measuring English level.
Adaptive Technology
The Reading and Listening parts of the exam are adaptive. The difficulty changes based on your answers. This makes the test shorter and gives a more accurate result for your level.
Skills Assessed in the Test
The exam has four parts: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. You can take all four parts on the same day, or you can take individual parts if you only need a result in one skill.
Scoring System
The standard test gives a score from 0 to 140. The Advanced test gives a score from 0 to 170. You receive a separate score for each skill. If you complete all four parts, you also receive an overall certificate.
Fast Results
Listening and Reading results are available on the same day. Speaking and Writing results are usually ready within five working days. This makes the Oxford Test of English one of the fastest English certificates to receive.
